Sound problems on an iMac:

Be sure that the volume is not muted.  The volume controls are on top of the number pad.

 

The boxes at the bottom indicate the volume level.  All black means no sound.

 

If you are having sound problems within Gizmo or Audacity, go to:

Little blue apple in left corner > System Prefs. > Sound.

The mute should not be checked off on the input screen or on the output screen.

Check that both the output and input are set on headphones (USB Headphones).
